Chess’N’Beer is once again celebrating the thirty edition of the very beer-rich amateur chess tournament with a special edition, where the most prizes will be awarded to the competitors!

After the XXVth Mad Scientist Chess’n’Beer tournament, the HIGHLY SUCCESSFUL TEAM COMPETITION returns!

In Hungary, to the best of our knowledge, there has never been an amateur team tournament (except for the last one we organized), this form of competitive play has been the privilege of club players, but we know that team competition is one of the most enjoyable forms of individual sports, when you compete for each other and for the success of the team, so we wanted to offer you such an opportunity. In practice, this means that although you will still be playing individually, you will be part of teams, and teams will compete against each other on the final scoreboard. What you need to know about the formula:

– There will be teams of 4 in the tournament: if you have an idea of who you would like to be on a team with, be sure to write that – and the team name you choose – in the comments section when you purchase your entry

– it is also not a problem if you only have two or three players on your team: we will randomly select a third and/or fourth team member for you

– it’s also no problem if you come alone, we will put you in a team, you don’t have to write anything in the comment field, we will know what to do

– we are also very happy to welcome those who have not been to our competitions before, we will be able to put them in a team

– as there will be more players in a team, there will of course be more prizes, and we will also have special prizes for you

– Don’t be scared by the new format, we are preparing for this special format as best we can, with great care and attention, to organise one of the best tournaments ever for you!

– in the context of the rules, the usual conditions will still apply, i.e.: you must be under 1500 FIDE live in each time control category

IF THIS IS THE FIRST TIME YOU HAVE ENTERED, HERE ARE THE TOURNAMENT RULES

All amateur applicants are welcome (maximum 1500 LIVE points if you have a ranking).

The format of the tournament is 7 rounds, Swiss system, chess clock, 2×15 minutes without bonus time. In the event of a tie, the team score will be decided first, followed by the total team score, then the Buchholz rating, the progressive score and the Berger-Sonneborn calculation.

Primary scoring for the team competition:

Win: 2 points (e.g. 2.5-1.5)

Draw: 1 point (e.g. 2-2)

Defeat: 0 points (e.g. 1-3)

Secondary scoring:

Team’s total points.

The above rule does NOT apply to the scores of chess.com and lichess.org, they will not be taken into account.

Registration: 9:30 – 10:30

Start: 11:00.

PRIZES

The first three positions will receive a Mad Scientist gift pack. In addition, there will be several special prizes in this competition!

This time the entry fee is not exchangeable for items on the menu, it’s simply the entry to the competition.
