– New location, new chapter, same mission: a great chess tournament –

🎉 On June 22, 2025, Hungary’s most popular amateur chess tournament series continues with fresh energy and a brand-new venue: the Mad Scientist Chess’n’Beer returns – this time on the Buda side, hosted by the beautiful Mad Garden!

🌳 Under the trees of Miklós Square, we’ll play chess outdoors, enjoy great beer, compete, and reconnect with the laid-back summer community vibe that makes Chess’n’Beer so special.

And yes – we’re not hiding it: our goal is to fill up the boards again and make this one of the biggest events of the season!

🗓 Date and location:

• Date: Sunday, June 22, 2025

• Location: Mad Garden – 1033 Budapest, Miklós tér 1.

• Registration: 9:30 – 10:30

• Tournament start: 11:00 sharp

🌤 We checked the past 10 years of weather data and the current 30-day forecast – everything points to great weather!
But don’t worry: in case of rain, we’ll move to a semi-covered area on site.

♟ Tournament Format:

• 7-round Swiss system

• Time control: 2 × 15 minutes, no increment

• Tiebreaks: Buchholz, progressive score, Berger–Sonneborn

• Maximum FIDE rating: 1700 (rapid, blitz, or classical)

  • If you are not listed in the FIDE rating database, you are still welcome to play

  • We do NOT consider Chess.com or Lichess ratings

💸 Entry Fee:

• 6000 HUF / player

• The entry fee is not redeemable for food or drinks – it covers event organization, prizes, and promotion

• On-site registration: 7000 HUF, only if spots are still available
